Nampa child care programs adapt to new school schedule

NAMPA — As the school year has begun, the Harward Recreation Center and the Salvation Army have reevaluated their kindergarten through fifth-grade programs to meet new needs within the community.

The Nampa School District has gone through a variety of changes in the past year, including major schedule changes. The NSD’s 13,000 students no longer attend school on Fridays and have longer days Monday through Thursday.

With this in mind, childcare has been a necessity for working parents, especially for those with younger children.

The Boys & Girls Club in Nampa recently renovated the former Centennial Elementary School location to expand its operation to accommodate 500 additional students and 15 staff members in anticipation of increased demand from families this school year, the Idaho Press previously reported .

That was just one example of adjustments and refinements being made by local entities. Here is what the recreation center and Salvation Army are doing in response to the district’s schedule changes:
