Former Special Olympics coach appears in court on rape charges

BOISE, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — A Boise man charged with rape appeared in 5th Judicial District Court Friday for a preliminary hearing.

Larry Rich, 72, a former Special Olympics coach, faces two counts of rape incapable of giving legal consent due to any cause, in connection with an alleged 2016 incident, according to court documents.

Rich brought the victim to the Idaho Special Olympics Games on June 11, 2016 in Twins Falls, according to an affidavit. In fall 2025, the victim reported to the Boise Police Department that Rich raped her during the games…
