‘Turtleboy’ lawyers to revisit bid for ex-Trooper Michael Proctor’s bigoted text messages

A lawyer for Aidan Kearney, the blogger known as “Turtleboy,” said his defense intends to revisit its request for access to text messages sent by former Massachusetts State Police Trooper Michael Proctor in the wake of a new lawsuit from Karen Read.

Kearney faces roughly a dozen criminal charges across two cases. Prosecutors say his aggressive reporting on Read’s criminal case crossed the line into intimidation and harassment of witnesses. Kearney’s defense claims his conduct was protected by the First Amendment.

Lawyers for Kearney first filed a motion to compel prosecutors to provide them with the information from Proctor’s phone in October. At the time, they argued that evidence harming Proctor’s credibility and/or supporting Kearney’s claim that the investigation into him was flawed must be turned over to the defense…
