Months after a man was fatally injured on an MBTA escalator in Somerville, Massachusetts, a woman was caught and injured on the same escalator. But another rider used the emergency stop button in Friday morning’s incident, officials said.
A piece of the woman’s clothing got caught as the escalator approached the bottom just after 7 a.m. Friday, according to the MBTA. Someone in front of her hit the emergency stop button.
She was sent to the hospital with a minor hand injury, according to the Somerville Fire Department, which thanked the person who stopped the escalator, as did the T.
Earlier this year, the NBC10 Investigators broke the story of the man who died after getting caught in an escalator. Surveillance video the NBC10 Boston Investigators obtained showed MBTA riders pass by, seemingly unaware the was in distress and being strangled by his clothing. An MBTA employee did not respond to the scene and press the emergency stop button until more than 20 minutes had passed…
