Lexington police locked down a church Friday afternoon after receiving a report of a gunman, only to discover that the man was a historical reenactor.
Officers responded to a report of a shirtless man with a gun in the parking lot of Grace Chapel on Worthen Road around 3:20 p.m., Lexington police said in a press release. The first officers at the scene quickly established a perimeter and put the church on lockdown, as “numerous programs, including those with children” were taking place.
Officers searched the area and found the man, who told them that his wife works at the church and that he was waiting to pick her up, police said. While he was waiting for her, he decided to polish his powder horn — a musket-era gunpowder container that’s shaped like a bull’s horn…
