Say hello to Boston’s 5-week-old kori bustard chick.
The intrigue: It’s the first kori bustard chick to hatch at Franklin Park Zoo in 23 years.
Zoom in: The chick hatched on Aug. 1, as the result of recommended breeding.
- The kori bustard is listed as “near threatened” — or likely to become endangered in the future — due to slow reproduction rates, hunting and development destroying their habitats, per the National Zoo.
- The chick is being raised by an animal care team to make sure it’s getting enough food and exercise.
