Mass. weather: Flood watch issued ahead of soaking Sunday

Massachusetts residents should prepare for a soaking Sunday as a powerful storm system brings the threat of flash flooding, especially across southeastern Massachusetts and areas near Boston.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch through Sunday afternoon for much of eastern Massachusetts, including Boston, Norfolk County and southern Worcester County. Rhode Island and parts of eastern Connecticut are also included in the watch.

Rain is expected to spread from west to east during the morning, with conditions worsening as periods of heavy rain develop. Forecasters warn that some communities could see torrential downpours capable of overwhelming storm drains and causing rapid flooding in streets, underpasses and other low-lying areas…
