East Providence man accused of scamming dementia patient strikes plea deal

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A former bank employee accused of secretly ripping off an elderly dementia patient in a sophisticated fraud scheme, has agreed to plead guilty.

Carlos Bras, 41, of East Providence, was charged in October with federal fraud for allegedly bilking a 78-year-old man living in an assisted living facility in Milton, Massachusetts of more than $126,000.

At the time of the scheme, Bras was a “relationship manager” at a Seekonk branch of Santander Bank, where he had “access to customer accounts,” including the victim’s who was identified only as “MDR” in court documents…
