Fire burns through popular Belmont ice cream shop, firefighters withdraw after floor collapse

A fire broke out overnight, sending smoke pouring out of an ice cream shop in Belmont, Massachusetts, early Thursday morning.

Belmont Fire Chief David DeStefano tells NBC10 Boston that crews responded to 2 Trapelo Road — the listed address for Moozy’s Ice Cream — after a worker from inside one of the businesses called the fire department around 4:30 a.m. to report smoke in the building, which houses a block of stores and has a basement.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy fire in the basement. By the time they gained access to that area, the first floor began to collapse, and crews were pulled out of the building…
