A Broomfield mother delivered her baby boy in her car on the side of the Northwest Parkway on August 7, and by the time paramedics arrived, mother and son were already breathing and doing well. The delivery happened in the middle of one of the region’s busiest toll corridors, with traffic streaming past at highway speed while a 911 dispatcher and two patrol officers worked to keep the family calm and safe.
According to the Broomfield Police Department, patrol officers Pfannenstiel and Crudup were called to the Northwest Parkway to assist the mother after she had already delivered her baby in the car. While officers made their way to the scene, Broomfield dispatcher Rader stayed on the phone with the family, offering guidance and reassurance until help arrived.
Once on scene, Officer Pfannenstiel helped keep both the mother and father calm and reassured during the tense moments after delivery, per the police department’s account. Officer Crudup, meanwhile, monitored passing traffic to help keep everyone safe — a critical task given the setting.
