Lafayette officials are in search of people who might who still own plots at the city’s cemetery, after the City Council last month said no casket burials will be allowed at the facility going forward except for “individual exceptions.”
A resolution passed by the council in July laid out four options for plot holders at the cemetery after it was determined by the state archaeologist to be filled with more burials than had been recorded by Lafayette.
Plot holders must contact city officials on or before Oct. 31 this year to begin their “individual plot planning process,” says a city webpage, where over 200 names are listed. Anyone who does not contact the city by that date will only be able to use their plots for cremated remains burials…
