VENICE — Former Venice High volleyball coach Brian Wheatley is moving up the ranks.
After maintaining the same job at Venice for three decades, Wheatley’s now on his second job in three years after accepting the assistant coach position at Appalachian State University in February.
“I’ve always had a desire in my heart to coach college,” Wheatley said. “When I left Venice, I wanted to go back and live in my college town, and I wanted to coach in college. I did the Auburn thing, and when [App State] came up I thought I could really add value to the program right away. I’ve never been an assistant, but I know what it takes because I’ve had so many great assistant coaches during my time.”…
