Judge has not yet ruled on Sarasota County’s motion to dismiss Laurel Meadows flood lawsuit

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A judge has not yet ruled on Sarasota County’s motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by 56 Laurel Meadows homeowners, according to attorney Stephen D. Hutton, who represents the plaintiffs.

Sarasota County filed the motion to dismiss on June 10. As of Tuesday, no ruling has been issued, Hutton said.

The 56 homeowners are suing Sarasota County for damages to their homes and property, seeking between $15 million and $20 million. The damages stem from flooding that occurred during Hurricane Debby in 2024. Plaintiffs allege the flooding was caused by the county’s negligence…
