BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) – What began as an emergency evacuation Saturday night has stretched into a week-long investigation after a roof collapse forced 157 residents out of a Bradenton care facility, leaving families scrambling to bring loved ones closer to home.
Collapse triggers evacuation, community questions
The roof collapse at Aviata at Bradenton Villas displaced all residents and prompted an immediate evacuation. Neighbors described the chaos of not knowing where residents were being taken.
Jon Herskowitz of Baron, Herskowitz & Cohen said the situation raised serious concerns about the facility’s obligations to its residents.
“It’s true — give them a roof over their head figuratively and literally they can’t even do that. What happened,” Herskowitz said.
Investigation underway
Since the collapse, construction and inspection crews have been on site working to determine what went wrong. Bradenton Mayor Gene Brown said the city is awaiting findings…
