MANATEE, Fla. (WWSB) – Manatee County leaders are inviting residents to learn more about how the county budget works and how property tax dollars are used, through a new live online workshop called “Budget 101.”
County officials shared details about the webinar on ABC 7 News at Noon, saying the goal is to make the budget process more transparent and easier to understand, especially for residents who want a clearer picture of where their tax dollars go and how funding decisions impact day-to-day services.
What residents can expect to learn:
Manatee County says the interactive session will walk participants through the basics of the county budgeting process, including:
- How millage rates are set
- How property taxes are calculated
- How funding decisions support services residents rely on, including public safety, roads and parks
The county says participants will be able to ask questions directly to county staff and take part in a live survey to compare community priorities for public services.
Why a virtual option is being offered:
The county has already hosted several in-person budget workshops, and officials say the webinar provides another way for residents to participate, especially for those who can’t attend meetings in person.
