NYC Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels under investigation in connection with alleged no-bid contract: Report

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York City Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels is under investigation in connection with an alleged no-bid contract that was awarded during his previous role in the school system, according to the New York Times.

The Special Commissioner of Investigation, a position that investigates misconduct at the Department of Education, is examining whether Samuels, who previously served as superintendent of District 3 on Manhattan’s West Side, split payments to avoid procurement rules that would have required competitive bidding for a $180,000 contract, the Times reported.

Samuels hired Language Learning Network in 2023 to provide foreign language teachers starting in the 2023-24 school year, according to the report.
