New York City is significantly expanding access to free swimming lessons this summer, adding eight new locations and creating thousands of additional opportunities for children and families to learn a potentially life-saving skill.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani and NYC Parks Commissioner Tricia Shimamura announced that registration is now open for the city’s 2026 Learn to Swim program, which will be offered at 18 outdoor pools across the five boroughs. The expansion marks a major increase from last year’s 10 locations and will provide more than 16,000 class slots throughout the summer.
