NYPD fires Brooklyn cop over assault, immigration scheme

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch fired Officer Harry Espinal on Jan. 23, 2026, the Daily News reported, after a department judge found him guilty of assaulting his girlfriend’s aunt and trying to use immigration sponsorship to influence the investigation.

According to a department case summary, the aunt told police that Espinal was jealous, monitored his girlfriend’s location and struck her several times during an argument. He also knocked a phone from her hand as she tried to call 911.

After his arrest, Espinal violated an order of protection by texting his girlfriend’s mother and asking her to persuade the aunt to drop the charges in exchange for Espinal continuing to sponsor the mother’s son’s residency application, according to the summary…
