Power outages in NY and NJ still over 80,000

NEW YORK (PIX11) — Tens of thousands of people are still without power throughout New York and New Jersey after intense heat was followed by harsh thunderstorms.

As of 7 p.m. on Sunday, over 80,000 customers of JCP&L, PSE&G and Con Edison were still waiting for their power to be restored after severe weather swept through the tri-state.

Below is a breakdown of the number of customers without power for each electrical company as of 7 p.m. on Sunday:

  • JCP&L: 54,227
  • PSE&G NJ: 11,690
  • PSE&G Long Island: 6,521
  • Con Edison: 7,124

Significantly more people were affected in New Jersey than in southern New York. For instance, Paramus residents woke up Sunday to downed trees and fallen power lines that left the neighborhood in disarray.

Con Edison once again reduced power in New York City neighborhoods by 8% and asked residents to limit their use of electricity. The areas of Brooklyn and Queens include 148,000 customers, according to Con Edison.
