NYPD whistleblower sworn in as NYC sheriff: ‘Modern-day hero’

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – There’s a new sheriff in town.

Ex-NYPD Lt. Edwin Raymond was sworn into the powerful position on Monday afternoon at a ceremony at Brooklyn College. He was joined by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who appointed Raymond in May.

Raymond, a child of Haitian immigrants from East Flatbush, takes over for former Sheriff Anthony Miranda, whose home was recently searched by federal agents. Raymond most recently worked as the first-ever social justice liaison for Attorney General Letitia James, who spoke at Monday’s ceremony.

“Sheriff, you are truly a modern-day hero in the eyes of so many,” she said. “You represent the best of the Haitian community.”…
