Man to spend 27 months in prison for New York marijuana smuggling

AKWESASNE, N.Y. (ABC22/FOX44) – A 32-year-old Chinese citizen was recently sentenced to 27 months in prison, according to authorities, months after he was convicted on drug charges for 207 pounds of marijuana found in his van.

Wenjian Zhuo’s defense had argued that Zhuo had no idea that boxes he was hired to drive hundreds of miles to New York City contained marijuana, but the jury convicted him after a two-day trial.

Court documents show that Border Patrol stopped Zhuo on January 22, 2025 after observing him driving suspiciously, and then searched the boxes after noticing an “overwhelming” smell of marijuana coming from his vehicle…
