In a disturbing turn of events, a violent ex-convict has been apprehended following a chilling spree of double murders in New York City. Jesus Acosta, 31, found himself in the spotlight after being captured by the NYPD on Saturday, having been the subject of a massive manhunt led by both the FBI and local law enforcement.
Upon his arrest, Acosta made a bizarre statement to the public, proclaiming, “God is good, God is great,” as he was escorted to Bronx Criminal Court in handcuffs. His words came as a stark contrast to the gravity of his alleged crimes, which include the fatal shootings of two innocent victims during separate armed robberies.
Acosta, who was on parole at the time of his capture, had previously served a decade in prison for assault and felony gun possession. His violent actions began on August 23, when he fatally shot MD Yousuf, a devoted family man and employee at America’s Best Wings and Pizza in Brooklyn, during a robbery. Yousuf was tragically struck in the head and subsequently died at a local hospital, leaving behind a grieving family and a community in shock.
Just 48 hours later, Acosta committed another armed robbery at a Bronx bodega, where he shot and killed 33-year-old Tayvon Shuler, a customer who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
