Some families to be allowed back into units a month after DeKalb Avenue fire

Some residents forced from their homes by last month’s Bronx apartment building fire may soon be allowed back into their apartments.

The city’s Department of Buildings says it recently gained access to the property at 34-33 DeKalb Avenue and is recommending that the vacate order be lifted for some units.

Tenants who need to retrieve belongings are being advised to contact their landlord. Officials say the building owner is actively working to address the remaining safety concerns…
