An aging government building at 100 Gold Street in Lower Manhattan—currently home to the city’s own housing agency—is slated for redevelopment into a mixed-use building of nearly 4,000 apartments, in what developers are calling the single largest infusion of new affordable housing in the area in decades.
According to the city’s announcement, Mayor Zohran Mamdani has launched the public review process for the project, which would be developed by GFP Real Estate following a competitive selection process. The plan adds roughly 300 homes beyond what had previously been estimated for the site.
“At 100 Gold Street, we have an opportunity to turn an aging government building into nearly 4,000 new homes, including approximately 1,000 that will remain permanently affordable, while delivering new spaces for the community,” Mayor Mamdani said…
