Are Knicks Smart To Have Interest in Marcus Smart?

The New York Knicks have so much depth along their wings that it forced the organization’s hand a bit to trade Donte DiVincenzo as a way to acquire Karl Anthony-Towns.

Could another move for a wing player be on the way?

As the Knicks prepare for their first preseason game of the season against the Charlotte Hornets, New York has reportedly found interest in Memphis guard and former Defensive Player of the Year, Marcus Smart.

As one of the most feared defensive wing players in the league, Smart has carved a nice role through his NBA career as a tough individual who can lock down top players on offense.

While his shooting ability leaves much to be desired, the Knicks could look for more defensive firepower.

That doesn’t always mean it’s a good thing, though.

New York’s bench is still loaded after the DiVincenzo trade with Josh Hart, Miles McBride, and Cameron Payne as part of the group. Sure, adding Smart could help with defense, but the Knicks know they need to keep some of the continuity from last year’s playoff team together.
