WILTON, Conn. (WTNH) — A man from the Bronx, New York, was arrested in Wilton on April 28 after allegedly attempting to cash a stolen IRS tax refund check while in possession of a fake ID, according to police.
Officers were dispatched to Town Green in Wilton Center for a report from Webster Bank that a suspicious male was attempting to cash a false refund check. The man was later identified as 24-year-old Tyrese Niles.

Niles fled the scene on foot after officers arrived, according to police. Officers chased him to the Town Green lawn before he was able to get in a getaway vehicle, police said.
Niles was arrested and charged with the following:
- Criminal impersonation
- Second-degree identity theft
- Conspiracy to commit second-degree identity theft
- Interfering with an officer
- Second-degree forgery
- Tampering with evidence
- Third-degree attempted larceny
