Two NY men accused of stealing $300K check meant to pay for Wilton police headquarters

WILTON — Officers arrested two New York men accused of stealing a $300,000 check from the town of Wilton, according to police.

Wilton police said the check was issued as a partial payment for the construction of the new Police Department building. The check had been deposited into an account opened by 62-year-old Davis Segui, of Brooklyn, N.Y., who was impersonating the intended recipient, according to police.

Investigators found that, immediately after the stolen check was deposited into the account, $150,000 was transferred to a personal account belonging to Mahamadou Sillah, 26, of Bronx, N.Y. Police said Sillah then “withdrew and benefited from those funds.”…
