STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island has been homicide free for eight months and is leading New York City in a historic decline in murders, according to the NYPD.
Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced that there were the fewest murders, shooting incidents, and victims of gunfire citywide in recorded history for the first five months of the year.
In addition to zero murders, decreases have been reported for burglaries, robberies, petit larcenies and misdemeanor assaults on Staten Island this year through May 31, according to CompStat, the NYPD’s computerized system for tracking crimes…
