STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— Gridlock, congestion and double-parked cars plague most school zones during dismissal, but neighbors say the streets surrounding one Staten Island elementary school are impassable.
“Double parked cars are left unattended for about 10 minutes,” said Chad Siniscalchi, who has lived in the area for two decades. “My driveway is blocked regularly and I’m often unable to get up the block I live on because they are double parked and making it a one-way street. My bigger question is how is that safe for children and what message does it send to them?”
Siniscalchi said he has called 311, contacted elected officials and attended a Community Board meeting to voice his concerns, but no changes have been made.
