Jordan Barone, a musician born and raised in Huguenot, is turning 32 on June 24. This is a special birthday because on that same day, Barone will be releasing his latest song, “Alone in L.A.”
The song is inspired by his time in Los Angeles. “I was out there for a short amount of time, just trying to seek different opportunities,” Barone said. “I was in New York for such a long time, and I love New York, but obviously it’s a different world out there. I just felt very alone. In New York, you’ll know if someone doesn’t like you, but I feel like in L.A. people are kind of fake. It just didn’t feel right for me; I felt the solitude. I was going through mental health issues and pain issues, and I just wanted to get out of there.”
Barone’s journey to becoming a musician and performer was circuitous. He came from a musical family. “My father always played guitar and my mom played the piano,” Barone said. “I started playing piano at age six. My brother used to get bullied as a kid because he did ballet, so as an outlet, he started to write music. My parents wanted a safe place for him to make music, so they converted our garage into a little makeshift studio. He would have all these different people come by and record mostly rap music. So I was just around it as a kid. As I got older, I started working on music with him. We needed a way to make the music sound better. I found out that’s what an audio engineer does, and that’s what got me into that field. And then ultimately, I just wound up producing music and songwriting.”…
