NEW YORK, N.Y. (PIX11) — As the tri-state area continues to sweat through extreme heat and humidity, the focus turns to the stormy conditions that some locations could see through the holiday weekend.
The first chance comes Friday evening into Friday night as a trough remains draped over the region. Thunderstorms could develop in any location, but not everyone will see them. Some of the storms could be severe and contain downpours, gusty winds and hail.

Our second chance for showers and storms comes Saturday evening into early Sunday morning as a cold front sweeps through the area. Some forecast models show larger areas of showers and thunderstorms forming, so more locations could see wet weather. As with Saturday, some of the storms could be severe.
In many severe thunderstorms, winds gusts of over 50 mph can develop. This can cause tree limbs and power lines to come down, sometimes resulting in power outages. Along with that, flooding will be possible, especially in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.
