Tall ships parade into New York Harbor for Fourth of July

SANDY HOOK, N.J. (PIX11) — A once-in-a-generation event on the land calls for a once-in-a-generation event on the seas.

We’re bringing you a first look at the historic tall ships taking part in America’s big day in New York.  Each one is ready to take people’s breath away on the 4th of July for the parade of sail up the Hudson River.

It’s all part of Sail 4th 250, a festival featuring dozens of vessels from more than 30 nations. On Friday, the ships gathered in the Sandy Hook Bay awaiting their entrance to America’s big birthday bash, from Argentina, France, Italy and beyond.

The ships’ captains all gathered ahead of their journey to New York. Andy Ellers is Captain of the Elissa out of Galveston, Texas, currently docked in Brooklyn. He was last here in 1986 for the 100th birthday of the Statue of Liberty…
