3 New Yorkers died from heat-related illness during recent heat wave: officials

Three New Yorkers died from heat-related illness during the recent four-day heat wave that impacted the Tri-State area, according to officials.

Press Secretary for the Mayor Joe Calvello confirmed that all three victims died in their homes over the weekend.

“Extreme heat is deadly. Every year, roughly 500 New Yorkers lose their lives to heat-related illness,” Calvello said in a statement. “That is why our administration undertook a massive, whole-of-government approach to respond to the extreme heat emergency: opening hundreds of cooling centers across the five boroughs, extending hours at outdoor pools, and expanding outreach to older adults, homeless New Yorkers, and others most at risk.”…
