NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — If you are looking to buy a vehicle but want to avoid the full prices at dealerships, the City of New York holds regular auctions featuring cars that have been seized or abandoned.
Auctions will be held across the five boroughs, and the purchaser must pick up the vehicles where they are located.

What to do after purchasing a vehicle at auction
- You must pay with cash in full as soon as the sale is final
- In many cases, you will need to tow the auctioned vehicles from the tow yard. Vehicles must be towed by 5 p.m. on the day of the auction, or you will be charged a storage fee of $20 per day.
- If the vehicle is not towed within 96 hours of 5 p.m. on the auction day, it will be considered abandoned and removed.
- The tow yard may charge a tow fee to remove the vehicle from the yard.
- A towed vehicle may not be parked on a street or be driven until the owner has proper registration and license plates.
- Purchasers must take the Certificate of Sale to a Department of Motor Vehicles location to get a title issued in their name.
