‘A win for the union’: NYC doormen secure wage increase and benefits in new contract

UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) –  More than 1.5 million New Yorkers live in buildings staffed by unionized doormen, supers, and maintenance staff.

So everyone in those buildings was being asked to make contingency strike plans just in case there was a strike next week.

But now a tentative contract agreement has been reached.

“I’m excited for myself, but I’m excited also for the shareholders of the building,” Ardist Brown, a concierge who was on the negotiating committee, told PIX11 News. “They won’t be seeing strangers in the building and seeing garbage piling up.”…
