The city Department of Transportation is bringing a series of free bike helmet fittings and light giveaways in Brooklyn as cycling activity increases with warmer weather.
The initiative focuses on expanding access to safety gear for riders across the borough, where cycling continues to grow as a fast and affordable way to get around. At each event, trained DOT staff will fit helmets for riders of all ages and provide basic safety guidance.
The city’s helmet distribution program, launched in 2007, has provided more than 350,000 bicycle helmets through partnerships with community organizations and local elected officials. This spring’s Brooklyn events build on that effort with multiple stops in and around Prospect Park…
