Live Music in Jersey City, May ’26: The Statuary, Pushing Up the Daisies, JCJF, More

Jersey City is a town of participant-organizers. Most gallerists are artists themselves. Choreographers oversee the dance studios and cooks own many of the most creative restaurants. Even the live music venues are mostly operated by musicians. The Statuary (53 Congress St.), the town’s quintessential jazz club, was founded almost two decades ago by trumpeter Ted Chubb and music producer Rachel Ryall. They’ve run their spot exactly how you’d expect artists to do it, emphasizing accessibility and camaraderie and maintaining an intentionally blurry line between listeners and performers. Given the quality of talent they’ve attracted to the Heights, they’ve also kept their suggested donations reasonable.
