New York woman paralyzed in subway attack can’t wipe away own tears as pusher is jailed

An award-winning New York artist who survived being shoved into a moving train looked on while her mother wiped her tears during her attacker’s sentencing.

Turkish-born artist Emine Ozsoy, 38, was attacked by DoorDash driver Kamal Semrade in May 2023, when he threw her into an oncoming train at the 63rd Street and Lexington Avenue subway station. During his sentencing in Manhattan Supreme Court, he showed no signs of remorse and refused to apologize.

Ozsoy was left quadriplegic – paralysis of all four limbs and the torso – after the violent incident. Sitting in a motorized wheelchair during her victim impact statement, she said, “I am in this condition because of this evil action.”…
