Lackawanna man sentenced for fatal Skyway crash

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Lackawanna man was sentenced Thursday to 4 to 12 years in prison after driving the wrong way on the Skyway and causing a fatal crash in June 2025, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said.

Joshua L. Wright, 28, previously pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide in February 2026.

Around 11:35 p.m. on June 5, 2025, Wright drove in the wrong direction on Route 5 in Buffalo while intoxicated, causing a head-on collision, officials said. Shabrina Grant, 28, of Buffalo, was a passenger in Wright’s vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Another victim, a 46-year-old woman, was injured and taken to ECMC for injuries to her hand, knee, and foot.
