BUFFALO, N.Y. — When you think of the New York system of locks, the Erie Canal might be the first that comes to mind, but another New York lock, constructed 113 years ago, serves just as important a purpose.
“It is a gravity-fed system,” explained Justin Heaslip, the Black Rock Lock lockmaster for the Army Corps of Engineers. “It’s one of the originals.”
