BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Rep. Nick Langworthy is pushing a bill to reveal the veil of secrecy around healthcare costs in an effort to increase affordability.
The legislation is called the Check Act and would create transparency for patients and better gear medical costs to their needs.
Some of the key provisions include that health providers must provide detailed claims and furnish patients with itemized bills before seeking payment. The act would also instill meaningful penalties for providers who do not comply with the transparency requirements.
