Buddy Guy to celebrate 90th birthday at Kleinhans, wish is for more radio stations to play the blues

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Blues legend Buddy Guy will be celebrating his 90th birthday on July 18 at Kleinhans Music Hall as part of his latest tour in celebration of the milestone.

Guy referred to himself, Bobby Rush, and Willie Nelson as the “last of the older ones,” with Rush being 92 years old and Nelson being 93.

Guy announced two years ago he would be slowing down, though he noted there was a misunderstanding in reporting that alleged he was retiring from touring. Guy said he doesn’t ever want to get to a point where he feels he is not giving his audience his best. He recalled seeing his late friend B.B. King brought onstage in a wheelchair, and John Lee Hooker using a crutch as they got older, and taking it as a sign to slow down before he got to a point where he couldn’t perform to his fullest onstage…
