New byway to highlight Underground Railroad sites from Auburn to Niagara Falls

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — New legislation has been signed, adding the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway to New York’s Scenic Byways System.

The bill will establish a multi-county route that highlights key Underground Railroad sites from Central to Western New York. The route will span about 176 miles, and connect 22 locations tied to Harriet Tubman, the Underground Railroad, and freedom seekers.

It begins in the City of Auburn in Cayuga County, then continues through Seneca County, and through Ontario, Wayne, Monroe, Orleans, Niagara, and Erie Counties before ending at Niagara Falls…
