Alden man arrested for DWI after multi-vehicle crash involving State Police Charger

TONAWANDA, N.Y. — An Alden man is facing charges after he allegedly caused a multi-vehicle crash on the I-190. One of the vehicles damaged was a New York State Police Charger.

James R. Phalen, 34 has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated and other Vehicle and Traffic tickets.

According to New York State Police, on July 1, around 7:20 p.m., a trooper responded to a single-car crash on the I-190 southbound in the town of Tonawanda. Investigators say Phalen was driving a 2014 Dodge Ram with a dolly trailer when he allegedly hit a 2007 Ford Focus. The impact caused the Focus to hit the State Police Charger, which then hit the 2025 Dodge Charger that was involved in the initial crash…
