BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Tonawanda man received the maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison for killing a man with a machete in Buffalo’s Riverside neighborhood in 2023, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.
Adalberto J. Bermudez Jr., 48, killed 39-year-old Jose Barreto-Gonzalez with a machete on Sept. 23, 2023 at the Shaffer Village apartments on Isabelle Street. Bermudez was found guilty of second-degree murder in April 2026 following a six-day trial.
Bermudez was arrested in November 2024.
