BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 17-year-old is expected to make a full recovery after his heart stopped for several minutes on Saturday at the Knox Park soccer fields, the East Aurora Fire Department said Monday.
The East Aurora Fire Department responded to a call from Knox Park around 6:30 p.m. that said bystanders were performing CPR on an unresponsive person. Emergency medical technicians arrived eight minutes later; after a Bowmansville firefighter used an AED device and two minutes of additional life-saving care, the 17-year-old’s heartbeat returned and he was breathing on his own, officials said. He was then taken by ambulance to South Buffalo Mercy Hospital.
The 17-year-old is recovering in the hospital and expected to make a full recovery, officials said.
