Radioactive contamination investigation expands into Southtowns

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The state and federal investigation into properties that may be contaminated with radioactive waste is expanding southward into Erie County after screenings of hundreds of properties in Niagara County and Grand Island.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Tuesday that crews will begin evaluating “areas of interest” for possible radioactive contamination in Aurora, Boston, Brant, Concord, Eden, Evans, Hamburg, Marilla and Orchard Park.
