Buffalo man sentenced for attack with shovel

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for brutally assaulting a woman with a shovel in the city’s Lovejoy neighborhood in July 2025, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said Monday.

Julian Taylor, 32, received the maximum sentence after being convicted of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and third-degree possession of a weapon in June.

Taylor violently assaulted his girlfriend with a shovel outside of their residence on Greene Street around 8:15 p.m. on July 31, 2025, officials said. Officials said Taylor struck the victim, a 29-year-old woman, several times with a shovel in the head and body before a witness intervened.
