BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Niagara Falls man admitted to killing a 79-year-old woman in their shared apartment in July 2025, the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office said Monday.
William Smith, 66, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for killing 79-year-old Valerie Maye and is facing a sentence of between 20 and 23 years to life in prison. He pleaded guilty as jury selection was about to begin.
“The crimes committed against Valerie Maye by this defendant comprise one of the most heinous cases of domestic violence and elder abuse that I have seen as a prosecutor,” Niagara County District Attorney Brian Seaman said. “The sentence to be imposed should ensure that this defendant will never get out of prison.”…
