Growing up in Buffalo, New Era Cap was always bigger than just hats. It represented culture, pride, sports, music, and home. What makes it even more special for me is that I got the chance to experience the company from the inside.
I started as an intern working within the marketing department, and honestly, that experience taught me so much about branding, storytelling, partnerships, and what it really means to build a global company while staying connected to your roots. I remember helping coordinate entertainment activations at the headquarters store, assisting with artist gifting, and seeing firsthand how intentional New Era was about culture. Watching artists, athletes, and celebrities receive custom Buffalo-made fitteds was always surreal because those moments turned into real influence.
And years later, to now be featured and connected within those same spaces feels full circle.
What always stood out to me most about New Era wasn’t just the fashion. It was the history.
Learning that the owners originally lived right on Buffalo’s East Side, the same side of the city that shaped so many of us, meant something to me. Even more powerful was learning the original warehouse was located there too. That’s why I always say New Era isn’t just a worldwide brand. It’s a homegrown Buffalo success story that never forgot where it came from.
One of the biggest moments in the company’s history was creating the first-ever red New York Yankees fitted cap after filmmaker and culture icon Spike Lee made a personal request. He had a Yankees jacket and wanted a red fitted to match. One phone call later, history was made. What started as a custom request became one of the most influential fashion statements in sportswear and hip-hop culture.
